The Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is the only research institute in Bulgaria where in the best academic traditions and in details the history of Bulgarian medieval art as part of the Byzantine, Balkan and Eastern Orthodox art in general is being researched.
Institute of Art Studies (IAS) conducts basic and applied studies. As a complex unit with five main research fields (fine arts, music, theatre and screen arts and architecture) IAS creates a favourable environment for scientific implementation of interdisciplinary research and the annual training of PhD students.
